World Premiere at the IAA 2005
BRABUS S V12 S Biturbo: 730 hp / 537 kW and 1,320* Nm
The new Engine Generation Based on Mercedes V12 Biturbo
730 hp / 537 kW at 5,100 rpm and a peak torque of 1,320 Nm, limited electronically to 1,100 Nm: Those are the most important cornerstones of the new BRABUS S V12 S Biturbo displacement engine that celebrates its world debut at the IAA 2005 in Frankfurt/Main. It is now available for all current Mercedes 600 models, covered by the one-of-a-kind BRABUS Tuning Warranty® of three years up to 100,000 kilometers (see BRABUS warranty conditions as of June 2003).
If people anywhere in the world discuss especially powerful engines based on the twelve-cylinder Mercedes 600 engines they’ll automatically mention BRABUS (Brabus-Allee, D-46240 Bottrop, phone + 49 / (0) 2041 / 777-0, fax + 49 / (0) 2041 / 777 111, Internet www.brabus.com). That comes as no surprise: When the 600 SEL of the W 140 series debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in 1991 it also started the career of the BRABUS V12 displacement engines 6.9, 7.3 and 7.3 S with up to 582 hp / 428 kW.
In October of 1996 the BRABUS E V12 based on the Mercedes W 210 E-Class found entry into the ‘Guinness Book of World Records’ as the ‘world’s fastest sedan’ with an electronically limited top speed of 330 km/h. The same engine, the 582-hp / 428-kW BRABUS 7.3 S
displacement engine, also powered the 320-km/h T V12 that earned the Guinness Book title of the ‘world’s fastest street-legal wagon.’ Yet another record entry was the BRABUS M V12, the world’s fastest SUV, also powered by this type of engine.
The development of the BRABUS S V12 engine generation was spawned by the switch to the new three-valve twelve-cylinder engines in the Mercedes CL 600 and S 600 models in early 2000. The naturally aspirated engines with up to 475 hp / 349.6 kW and 6.7 liters displacement were succeeded by the turbocharged V12 models in the spring of 2003. The BRABUS S V12 Biturbo engine produced 640 hp / 471 kW and was the first street-legal engine to surpass 1,000 Nm peak torque. This engine propelled the BRABUS E V12 Biturbo to a top speed of 350.2 km/h and earned it the title of fastest street-legal sedan in the world.
The new BRABUS S V12 S Biturbo displacement engine represents an even more powerful evolutionary level. As before displacement of the three-valve twelve-cylinder engine grows from 5.5 to 6.3 liters thanks to a crankshaft milled from one piece, larger cylinder bore, special pistons and piston rods. The engine conversion further comprises re-machined cylinder heads and custom camshafts.
The peripherals of the twin-turbo engine also play an important role in the overall power output of the engine. Thus the BRABUS engine specialists developed a new turbocharging system with larger turbochargers and more efficient intercoolers. Metal catalysts with low back pressure also contribute to the improved mixture flow of the BRABUS S V12 S Biturbo displacement engine.
Special mapping for engine electronics and on-board diagnostics coordinate the new components and guarantee an optimal symbiosis of power yield and smoothness in combination with exemplary low emissions and low fuel consumption, especially in light of enormous power. Like all other BRABUS high-performance engines the most powerful engine in the program is lubricated with ARAL synthetic motor oil.
* elektronically limited
The BRABUS S V12 S Biturbo engine offers truly impressive performance: In the 600 models power output jumps from standard 500 hp / 368 kW at 5,000 U/rpm to 730 hp / 537 kW at just 5,100 rpm. At the same time peak torque grows from 800 Nm to 1,320 Nm from a low 2,100 rpm. Custom-calibrated mapping of the engine electronics limits peak torque to 1.100 Nm.
Performance of a Mercedes 600 model with BRABUS S V12 S Biturbo displacement engine is correspondingly exceptional, as in the example of an SL Roadsters powered by this engine: 0 - 100 km/h in just 4.0 seconds, 10.5 seconds to 200 km/h and 29.5 seconds to 300 km/h are top-notch figures as is the top speed which is electronically limited to 300, 320 or 350 km/h, depending on the selected final drive ratio and the speed-rating of the tires.
The BRABUS S V12 S Biturbo engine conversion is available for 63,900 Euros MSRP. For the AMG 65 models BRABUS offers the BRABUS T 65 S performance kit for 19,900 Euros. With special turbochargers, a more efficient intercooling system, metal catalysts and newly programmed engine electronics the maximum power output grows to 715 hp / 526 kW, peak torque increases to 1,300* Nm.
